Awards & Uniform Decorations
1. General: Awards and decorations are presented to individual cadets and units who excel in certain areas of military achievement and in JROTC sponsored extracurricular activities. Awards are given to recognize the distinguished, heroic, meritorious, and other commendable acts of the individual cadet or unit.
Awards (medals and ribbons) should be worn above the left breast pocket from the wearer's right to left in the sequence of (Order of Merit): Academic series, ribbons will be worn in numerical order. Ribbons will be centered l/8 inch above the pocket with no more than three ribbons per row. Each row of ribbons will be l/8 inch apart. Ribbons may be placed to the left to present a better appearance. The honor unit insignia are both worn 1/4 inch above the center of the right breast pocket with one point of the star pointing up. If academic achievement insignia and the honor unit insignia are both worn, the wreath is placed l/8 inch above the center of the pocket with the star inside, one point of the star pointing up.
2. TYPES OF AWARDS: The following types of awards, decorations, and badges may be worn by cadets. Reference: AR 145-2, dated April 1997.
Department of the Army Awards.
Civic Organizations Awards.
Ribbons listed in AR 145-2 (each school awards based on criteria listed).
Subsequent awards of the same ribbon will be in accordance with AR 145-2, involving the awarding of lamps.
Marksmanship Qualification Badges.
Shoulder Cords. Shoulder cords does not exceed two in number for any one cadet (one on each shoulder). Award of each cord is determined by its respective SOP.
Arcs. Arcs will be placed (equally spaced) underneath ribbons and medals on the left pocket. Award of each arc is determined by its respective SOP.
